The goal of my research is to advance the science and engineering for geoengineering, infrastructure and sustainability. Infrastructure has a broad coverage of foundations, pavements, bridges, tunnels, water and waste water utilities, etc. My research interests aim at applying interdisciplinary expertises to develop modern sustainable infrastructure systems. This embraces 1) development of innovative sensor technologies for construction materials properties characterization, infrastructure integrity evaluation, performance monitoring, and infrastructure management information system; 2) study of the fundamentals of civil engineering material-structure interactions at different scales to develop new materials for transportation and environment; 3) efficient and resilient design of infrastructures (foundation, pavement, bridges, tunnels, water and waste water utilities), 4) development and application of advanced numerical methods for Civil infrastructures; 5) Innovative sensor technology for infrastructure, environment and energy; 6) smart materials and structures technology.
