Ocular Motility Laboratory
Located in the basement of the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center
The Daroff-Dell'Osso Ocular Motility Laboratory, directed by Dr. Mark Walker, has been a major contributor to vestibular and eye movement research for the last 40 years. Supporting four principal investigators is a technical staff that includes several Ph.D. and M.S. level engineers and research assistants. The recording laboratories are housed in a 3066 sq. ft. space consisting of four state-of-the-art testing rooms for recording human eye movements and one clinical examination room. The clinical exam room includes all standard equipment for diagnosis of vestibular, ocular motor, and neurological disorders. The laboratory’s testing rooms are equipped with magnetic-field, infrared video, and virtual-reality systems for recording eye movements. A custom-built motion platform based on the Moog 6DOF2000E motion base is used to study responses to linear and rotational motion. For virtual-reality application development and testing, we have multiple state-of-the art VR headsets and high-end gaming desktop and laptop computers.
In addition to the four recording laboratories and the clinical exam room, there is 174 sq. ft. machine and electronics shop and office space for the PI and other investigators, engineers, and other study staff. Additional resources include specialized PCs for data acquisition and analysis. Most of the experimental and data analysis software has been written by investigators and study staff.
