About the Advanced Platform Technology Center

As a part of the Department of Veteran Affairs Rehabilitation Research, Development, and Translation Broad Portfolio, the Advanced Platform Technology (APT) Center is a research center based in Cleveland, Ohio and focuses on addressing the clinical needs of our nation's Veterans. Since its creation in 2005, the APT Center has combined the latest discoveries in engineering and scientific disciplines to develop new devices and methodologies that serve Veterans with sensory, motor, or cognitive deficits. With a strong focus on regulatory compliance, clinical testing, and dissemination throughout the research community, the APT Center has a unique environment that allows it to create a variety of restorative technologies.

Investigators at the APT Center conduct research relating to four main application areas:

The success of the APT Center would not be possible without the diverse group of individuals supporting it. Engineers, clinical staff, trainees, volunteers, and support specialists collaborate to ensure that the center runs smoothly and efficiently. The APT Center also maintains connections with over 50 Investigators, including multiple recipients of Presidential Early Career Awards for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE), the NIH Director’s Innovation Award, and VA Career or Senior Career Research Scientist Awards. These individuals secure funding from private and public sources and work tirelessly to continue the advancement of VA research.
