Dustin Tyler, PhD and Clay Kelly, MD on WCPN's Sound of Ideas discussing Restoring Sensation

WCPN: 90.3FM

August 12, 2014|

Dr. Dustin Tyler, Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Case Western University and Associate Director of the APT Center and Dr. Clay M. Kelly, Chief of Service at Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center for the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service and Associate Medical Director of the APT Center, discuss sensory restoration… When you prick your finger, what you feel is a consequence of activity in the brain, not the finger itself. Biomedical engineers using this concept are leading an evolution in prostheses that help the estimated 2 million Americans who suffer from limb loss to "feel" their missing limbs again. This emerging field of devices for sensory restoration has applications far and beyond those afflicted by limb loss.
